Jamie I need help with computer stuff

This is geared toward Jamie specifically because I know that he knows stuff about computers, but anybody feel free to respond...I've been thinking about trading in my computer to get a laptop, but I don't know what to look for in a laptop and also how much money I can get for my comp. Right now I have a Mac G4, it's about a year old, as far as how much memory and all that stuff it has, I have no clue. I have a really nice monitor that I think I could get a decent amount for, (it's a Mac like 22" or something like that), but I was wondering if one weekend when I'm home or whenever you're in the city if you would want to come to the Mac store with me and try to negotiate a good deal for me. Let me know if you have time to help me. Thanks :)

  • Sure thing.

I take it you want an Apple powerbook?
From what I've seen, the pricing is pretty comparable most places, and apples website seems to have decent pricing. Maybe Chris has some coupons on his website?
Ebay would be the best bet for selling you computer (BTW, just sold my camera on EBAY - WOOOHOO!!)

I'm in the city everyday, so let me know if you want to go one day after work.

  • I'm usually free after 2 on Thursdays and Fridays, I'm not sure what works best for you...I would have no idea how to go about selling my comp on ebay so I might need help with that too, lol Thanks :)

  • Jenna, I actually just sold my G4 powerbook on Ebay about 3 weeks ago. I bought one of those new iMac G5's which are pretty cool. A new Apple is pretty hard to get a deal on. There prices are pretty consistent across the board. However you can get a student discount by buying online and going to this link http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/routingpage.html.

I think you can get like $100 or $200 off the regular price depending on which model you get.

  • ahhh, I would have bought it from you had I known. Yea, I was talking to kristy about it and she told me the only real discount I would be able to get would be my student one. If I sell my comp on ebay, there's no way I can get screwed right? Like there's no way I'll send the computer and not get paid, correct?

  • You do not Ship your item until you get paid, so your safe there.

Get the spec on your computer (processor speed, memory, hard disk capacity) and search for similar items to see what they sold for.

Ebay is definitely the best chance at getting the most money for your computer.
